WINDOW ACROSS THE WAY

[Astounding local jazz musician, Andrew Distel, is working on an album with his quartet. Andy (who just happens to be my housemate) asked me to write some lyrics for him, so I'm taking a stab at it. This is my first attempt. Andy has written some swingin' music to go with it. So if you get a chance, check him out at THE PUMP ROOM on Friday and Saturday nights-- maybe he'll even play this tune!]

I try not to look
Wonder who you are
Try not to stare
Feeling so far

How somehow we’ve met
I know your stance and style
Stranger in
The window across the way

Our windows open
I hear your music
Dance with you

I know somehow we’ve met
‘Cause I know your stance and style
Stranger in
The window across the way

Your curtain’s closed now
It flows out to reach me
You may as well be miles off
Miles away from me

How can I care so much?
Hoping some day I’ll find…
One day I’ll know you
If just in my mind

I try not to look
Try not to stare
Watching your shadow
Knowing you’re there

I know somehow we’ve met
‘Cause I know your stance and style
Stranger in
The window across the way
